Rugby league legend Paul Vautin had seen enough once the Raiders conceded their fourth try during the first half of Friday’s preliminary final.
From the moment the ball was kicked-off, the Raiders were on the backfoot after giving up three tries in just the opening 10 minutes of the match.
But it was Melbourne’s fourth try to centre Justin Olam in the 23rd minute that left Vautin shocked with Canberra’s defence.
Raiders winger Nick Cotric had a moment to forget when his attempt to knock the ball out of the in-goal went horribly wrong.
Storm score three tries in five minutes
Storm fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen’s kick in the in-goal looked to be an easy one to clean up before a cruel bounce exposed Cotric who would’ve wished he could’ve dived on the ball instead of trying to swat it away.
“That will do me,” Vautin told Nine.
“Honestly, dive on it champ! Any danger of diving on it instead of flicking it somewhere?
“I know it was a bad bounce in the end, but you’ve got to cover the ball with your body.
“Get your body in the way and fall on it if you can.
“That was horrendous.”
Johnathan Thurston added: “Swing and a miss from Cotric.
“Not what your forwards want to see when they’re working their backsides off.
“Grab the ball and ground it. Back your defence.”
