LIVE: Penrith edge narrow lead in heated clash

Under mountains of pressure, the Brisbane Broncos have grabbed the perfect start they were looking for against the Warriors on Saturday evening.

Having lost their past five games, Brisbane needed to start strong against the Warriors to shake the critics off their back.

As he has done time again this season, youngster Xavier Coates rose to the occasion benefitting of some positive ball movement on the Broncos’ right edge.

That allowed the winger to easily skip over inside the right post and gift the Broncos an early four-point buffer at Central Coast Stadium for his third try in three games.

It’s been a marked improvement in effort already, with Payne Haas and Tevita Pangai Junior bringing the heat in the middle of the park.

Pangai was involved in an early massive collision that sent former teammate Kodi Nikorima crashing to the turf and pulled from the field to undergo HIA. He was deemed unfit to return to play in a huge blow for the Warriors.

“The way he fell, that is an instant dismissal from the game,” said Micheal Ennis on Fox Sports.

“The fact that he went to the ground unable to help himself”.
