Home Game 'Out of control' melee spills over sidelines

‘Out of control’ melee spills over sidelines

The Suns might have kept their unlikely streak alive against the Dockers on Saturday night but tensions boiled over at halftime with both sides engaging in a melee as the clash became spiteful.

The Suns led the Dockers 7.0 to 6.0 at the main break, with both teams making the most of their chances in front of goal, yet it didn’t take much to spark things when a couple of innocuous pushes turned into something that spilled over the sidelines.

Suns midfielder Brandon Ellis targeted Dockers youngster Caleb Serong, with their exchanges resulting in some push and shove between a few players.

Once the half-time siren rang, players from both sides ran from all parts of the field as they all scuffled.

At one point it seemed like it was over until Matt Taberner tried to put his former teammate Sam Collins in a headlock, which sparked things even further.

“Now it’s out of control!” Fox Footy commentator Mark Howard said. “Players coming from everywhere.”

Taberner lost most of his guernsey in an exchange with several Suns players and went into the sheds shirtless.

Umpires had no control of the situation and tried to calm things down by warning players about the fines they face for fighting.

“You’re all getting fined!”, one said.

“Everyone’s getting fined, how many dollars do you want to lose guys?” said another.
